Dawn Fuqua has been with Gachassin Law Firm since 2018. She has been practicing law in the Acadiana area for more than 35 years. Dawn earned her undergraduate degree in 1981 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She went on to earn a Juris Doctor from Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University, in 1985.

Dawn’s main area of practice for Gachassin is medical malpractice defense. She practices in state and federal courts. Dawn’s experience includes oil and gas litigation, commercial litigation, environmental litigation, mass-tort litigation, and regulatory practice. Dawn served as a State of Louisiana Administrative Law Judge from 2009 to 2014, hearing general jurisdiction cases in accordance with the Louisiana Administrative Procedure Act. She also served as a panel judge on the State of Louisiana Ethics Adjudicatory Board from 2011 to 2013. Dawn served as law clerk to the Honorable Judge Patrick Michot, Fifteenth Judicial District Court, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana from 2014 to 2018.  

Dawn is active in the community serves on the board of directors for several non-profit agencies. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors with United Way of Acadiana, having previously served as chairperson. Dawn also serves as the Chairperson for the Policy Counsel of the United Way of Acadiana Early Head Start Program. Dawn is the past president of the Acadiana Inns of Court, where she is currently a member. Dawn is a graduate of Leadership Lafayette, Class XIII, and served as the organization’s Board Chair. Dawn also is a volunteer with the Homeless Alliance.

Dawn is dedicated to her family and friends. She has been married to Milton “Mitt” Fuqua for nearly 40 years. They have one son, Christopher, who is currently working with Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. In her spare time, Dawn likes to volunteer, garden, and spend time with her dog, Scooter.
